- Options for families with 2-6 kids – It can grow as your family grows
- All text is editable/customizable (or, you know, removable)
Combined Calendar & Chore Chart
- 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-kid configurations (3-kid shown below).
- Ideal for if you only need a calendar and a chore chart, and not other features on the other board styles.
- Ideal if you only have space for one whiteboard.
Chore Chart, Weekly Roundup, Screen Time Ledger
- 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-kid configurations (3-kid shown below)
- Use with a separate calendar board (see the next box) or on its own if you don’t need the calendar.
Features:
- Daily “My Responsibilities” chore chart. Rotate kid names on each assignment column every week to keep it more fair (Okay, okay, we’re always helping the littlest one finish her jobs).
- “The Weekly Roundup”: Tally up ‘points’ earned by completing responsibilities. Points can be exchanged for allowance and/or screen time (or … marshmallows if you prefer). Or don’t bother with the points-for-responsibilities system and keep track of reading time, or a personal goal.
- “Screen Time Ledger”: A systematic way to manage screen time allowances. Or keep track of reading time, exercise, or … marshmallow consumption.
Calendar Only
- Typically used as a separate whiteboard, in conjunction with the chore chart and screen time boards (above).
- There are two versions of this file – one with the “Menu” row (shown below) and one without.
- Blank space to jot notes/stick figure drawings/calculus expressions on.
Customize, Print, and Install Your Command Center
How To Customize Your Family Command Center:
It’s simple: Click –> Edit –> Save.
The text on the PDF is editable; if you see something you and your family do differently (different chores, different section titles, or maybe you want your calendar week to start on Monday and end on Sunday) just click to re-write it, or remove the text completely. Save it when you’re done.
Printing Your Family Command Center:
We recommend printing a trial-run on your home printer, before taking your file to a professional printer. You can use Adobe Reader to print it out full-size as a “poster” on multiple sheets of paper.
In Adobe Reader:
- Click “Print”
- Choose “Poster”
- Set the “Tile scale” to 100%
- Recommended: Check the “Cut marks” box to show small cut marks
After your trial run and any changes, you may want to have a professional printer make a copy on a single sheet of paper. Bring them your customized & saved file (USB drives work great) and tell them you need an 18″ x 24″ document printed at 100% size.
Install Your Command Center as a Whiteboard:
You will need a clear whiteboard to put the printed document behind. The printed dimensions are meant to fit a standard 18″ x 24″ size. A product that we use and recommend is the Audio-Visual Direct Clear Glass Dry-Erase Board with Aluminum Marker Tray (Note: This link is NOT for our site or product — it is an external site). 18″ x 24″ is also a standard frame size if you’d rather find your own picture frame with glass for whiteboard marker use.

And On A Personal Note:
We really hope that this system is as helpful for your family as it has been for ours.
This family command center is the result of years of trial and error and countless versions. And after all of it, this is the tool that we are actually using in our home today for our kid’s chore chart.
Has it made our home a kumbaya-flowers-rainbows-unicorns perfection? Nope. Do we still have our struggles? [chuckles] Yeah. But for our family, this command center has removed 90% of the squabbles in getting kids through their daily chores and responsibilities. They clearly understand what is expected of them. We (usually) don’t have to nag them to tell them what they forgot. It’s just so nice these days that they’ll come ask us if they can go play, and usually all I have to say is “Is your chart done?”
Your Advice Is Welcome:
Is it perfect, and we’re done improving it? If history is any indicator — nope 😃. We continue to learn from not only our own family, but now, also from your experiences. While it is our pet project here, and we would love to hear your experiences with any good things this does for your family, we’d also love to hear your advice on how you’d like it changed. Drop us a line. Your feedback goes right to us — and yes, we’re actually paying attention.
Thank you. Best wishes to you and your family.
